For young writers in grades 4-12. Presented in English and Spanish by Octavio Quintanilla as part of the 2019 Fort Collins Book Fest: Food for Thought. Registration required. Ven a explorar un mundo de posibilidades artísticas con el poeta mexicano, Octavio Quintanilla, ganador del prestigioso título Poeta Laureado. Octavio dará un taller interactivo, dinámico e inspirador donde utilizaremos las cámaras de los celulares para explorar el mundo exterior y así poder explorar nuestro mundo interior. ¿Qué revelaciones nos darán las fotos? ¿Cómo podrán esas fotos incitar asociaciones poéticas, recuerdos e historias? Cuando nos concentramos en los detalles, las posibilidades son ilimitadas. Poesía, ensayos, foto-poemas, narraciones visuales, écfrasis o una fusión de todo lo anterior será el resultado final. Los participantes tendrán tiempo para explorar, tomar fotos y escribir. Phone/Poem: Young Writers Workshop In this workshop we will use our phone cameras to explore the world outside of us so that we may pay acute attention to the world inside of us. What will the photos we take reveal to us? How will these images spark poetic associations, memories, and stories? The possibilities are endless when we zero in on the details. The end result could be poetry, essays, photo poems, visual narratives, ekphrasis, or hybrids of these forms. Participants will be given time to take photographs and time to write.
