Erin Cubley, a Peace Corps volunteer and recruiter at Colorado State University, taught environmental education in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco from 2009-2011. Erin will describe her journey starting on her first day in a country where she began speaking only two words of the native language, Berber. She will share aspects of Moroccan culture including food, language, and holidays as well as her personal experience living with a host family and living in a remote mountain village. Erin will also talk about volunteer opportunities and the application process for interested Peace Corps applicants. Erin received her BS in Environmental Conservation Studies from the University of New Hampshire in 2008. Following her Peace Corps service, she worked as a raft guide on the Salmon River in Idaho and a ski instructor in Utah. Erin received her MS from Eastern Washington University where she studied the response of riparian vegetation following dam removal on the Elwha River. In addition to serving as the CSU Peace Corps recruiter, Erin is currently pursuing her PhD in Ecology with a focus on how riparian vegetation responds to stream flow alterations on western rivers.
