Event Details

Please join Andreas (Andy) Kidane for a presentation on his work with the Africa Yoga Project a US 501c3 and community-based program in Kenya. Founded in 2009 and operating in 19 African countries, AYP trains marginalized youth to become yoga teachers and wellbeing professionals through a 3-year curriculum that provides job- and life-skills, empowers them to actively generate income with their newly acquired skills, to help develop the market for these skills, and to serve their communities all the while. “Our model cultivates a culture of inclusion and community service, and makes the health and wellness benefits of a practice like yoga accessible to marginalised communities.” – www.africayogaproject.org. Andy left a corporate career in 2015 to return to East Africa and work on social and economic causes. When the opportunity arose to join Africa Yoga Project and connect his relationship with yoga to his dedication to youth empowerment and employability, he jumped aboard and has been loving every minute since. He oversaw US and Africa operations until June 2019, and now works part-time and remotely as Grants Manager and as a board member. Andy holds a bachelor's in political science from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and a master's in international relations from Stockholm University in Sweden. Alongside work he is an avid camper, motorbike dropper, scuba divemaster, and soccer benchwarmer.
