Antarctic Lecture:What’s with all these cracks? Tales from Antarctic ice shelves

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Old Town Library
Large Meeting Room Combo

Event Details

Ice shelves don’t typically make headlines in The New York Times, but in recent months, stories of a nascent Delaware sized iceberg and the evacuation of Halley Research Station due to rift growth have been prominent. Daniel McGrath will provide a synopsis of ice shelves, discussing their importance to the Antarctic Ice Sheet, along with details of these recent events. He’ll focus on Larsen C’s rift, and will discuss efforts to both observe and model the rift, with an eye towards the stability of Larsen C in the future.
