Please join Klaus Lorenz for a presentation on his travels to Switzerland. Switzerland is a landlocked country in Western-Central Europe which encompasses a great diversity of beautiful landscapes, majestic mountains, pristine valleys, fast flowing rivers and many tunnels. Known for her chocolates, cheeses, cuckoo clocks, the Swiss army knife, the country is favorite vacation destination. It is one of the most developed countries in the world with the highest nominal wealth per adult. The country has a history of armed neutrality going back to the Reformation. We will visit the capital Bern as well as Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, then follow the Rhine River through its Falls at Schaffhausen to the picturesque little town of Stein -am - Rhein with its beautiful facades on its buildings, explore the city of Basel and then travel to the monastery at Einsiedeln to meet the Black Madonna. We will then walk through the city of Luzern with its famous wooden bridges, take a boat ride on Lake Luzern and then board the train of the world`s highest cogwheel railroad to the top of Mount Pilatus for a gorgeous view over the city and lake below. We will meet some of the local people in some high alpine valleys. A train ride will take us high up and close to the majestic snow packed peaks of the Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau. The pictures, which will be shown, were taken during several trips to Switzerland during summer and winter months with the latest trip in April of 2016. Klaus is well known to those of you who regularly attend INL. He has traveled to over 80 countries and shared many of these adventures with us at the Library Program. He is retired from CSU and enjoys traveling the world.
