Event Details

Oman is one of the hidden gems of the Middle East, historically a famous trade center that extended to the East African Coast with Zanzibar as it’s second African capital. Oman is now a colorful combination of cultures and traditions that blends together in harmony. The Middle East is portrayed as a messy place to be in, and while that is true with some countries, this is untrue for Oman, especially in relation to religious tolerance. In this presentation Sarah will discuss how religious tolerance, neutrality in times of regional conflict as well as the country’s foreign policy shaped the face of Oman. She will also speak of the history of Oman and how it has shaped it’s current diverse ethnic groups, the social and cultural values of the people and core belief’s. The presentation will also shed light into education, women, culture, life before and post the 1970 Renaissance of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Sarah moved to Fort Collins after receiving a full scholarship from the Ministry of higher education in Oman, she has been involved since the very beginning with organizations and clubs on campus as well as community events. She is now going through her last semester as an undergraduate and hopes to complete her further studies in the future. Her presentation will reflect her own personal views and experiences living in the U.S as an Arab woman and shed light on how studying in the States influenced her personality –according to her parents.
