Event Details

Please join Jane Mirandette for a presentation on building libraries in Nicaragua. They just completed the expansion of a lending library which was the first lending program in Nicaragua. This library recently become a sister library to Poudre River Public Library District in Fort Collins. They installed the first automated software system in a public library in Nicaragua with the help of Carol Gyger and IT Administrator Victor Zuniga who spent weeks customizing the KOAHA open source software program for us. Victor traveled with us to San Juan del Sur in April to install KOAHA on our new computers provided by the Gillette Wyoming Rotary Club and trained our staff to implement it. Library designer Justin Martinez, who designed the Council Tree library in Fort Collins, traveled to San Juan del Sur in February of this year to design the renovation of an old building for our new library and has recently initiated a Indiegogo Crowd Source fundraising site with a video provided by Miguel Buenrosto and Maria Fernandez Herrera, documentarians who traveled from Mexico to SJDS with Justin and I to document the restoration process. That video is available to view (for the next 2 weeks) at our Indiegogo site. Jane Mirandette is the President/Treasurer of the Hester J. Hodgdon Libraries for All Program located in Loveland, Colo.
