Event Details

Northwest India - Gujarat Gujarat, a state in northwestern India on the border with Pakistan is less well known than the more famous regions on the continent. Located just north of Mumbai, Gujarat is incredibly diverse due to its geographic and strategic location. It is primarily known for its textile industry but offers many other features including traditional lifestyles, fascinating temples and religious life, quaint villages and wildlife. The social life comprises various languages, customs, festivals, celebrations, food habits and dwellings of people living in different regions of Gujarat. We will visit tribal villages, markets, subterranean step wells ( bathing pools ) , a variety of religious sites --Hindu, Islamic and Christian , the home of Mahatma Gandhi , his headquarters during the struggle for Indian Independence as well as the Gir Lion Sanctuary , home of the Asiatic lion . The park also has the largest population of leopards in India as well as antelopes, wild boars, wolfs, hyenas and a variety of bird species.
