Event Details

IN SHACKLETON'S FOOTSTEPS Join Bob Michael for a visit to Antarctica, where we will revisit many of the spectacular and remote places at the bottom of the world which saw Sir Ernest Shackleton's ("the Boss") heroic and successful attempt to save the lives of his stranded crew a century ago -- arguably the greatest story of survival, endurance, and true grit ever told. Among other sights, we'll walk on the ice of the Weddell Sea, where his ship became icebound and destroyed; Elephant Island, where he left his men and took off with two others in a lifeboat to sail 800 storm-wracked miles to impossibly awesome South Georgia Island, where we'll drink a toast to his grave; and we'll check out the Antarctic Peninsula. Bob Michael is a consulting petroleum geologist in Fort Collins. He has always had a fascination for extreme, end-of-the-earth places, and in particular deserts since falling in love with the Mojave in his Southern California childhood.
