Event Details

Please Join Gavin and Brian, both former CSU students, for a presentation on Brazil, Portuguese and connecting people through language. Brazil is by far the largest and most populous country of South America (204 million people). It is also the only country on the continent where Portuguese is the official language. Portuguese is in fact the sixth most spoken language in the world, behind only Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, English, Hindi, and Arabic. Brian, a videographer and editor, learned Portuguese during a yearlong stay in Brazil from 2014-2015, in part due to his Brazilian fiancé, Michelle. Gavin, an atmospheric scientist and translator, taught himself Portuguese over the course of four years during graduate school and later during two short stints in Brazil in 2014 and 2016. Both live and work in Fort Collins and run their own Brazilian Portuguese YouTube channels. A sample of Brazilian sweets will also be available to try.
