Elks and Bears, Mooses and Mushrooms: Everything about Our Biggest Wildlife Bigger wildlife is generally easier to find and watch, but what determines our perception of size? Pondering the boundary between large and big spawns other questions. What is Colorado’s biggest tree, fish, squirrel, and butterfly? Ultimately: what is Colorado’s biggest wildlife species? It begins with what is and isn’t wildlife. Colorado’s Nature: Everything Wild and Wonderful We drew four lines to box off a chunk of land that we subsequently named Colorado. It sprawls across portions of the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains, and the Colorado Plateau. Textured with river canyons and mountain ranges and robed in lifescapes of grasslands, shrublands, and treelands, this place we call home supports a wealth of wildlife more diverse than a storyteller’s imagination. “Colorado’s Nature” will spend the next year enriching what you already know about that wildlife, introducing you to kinds of wildlife you never knew were your neighbors, and detailing when, where, and how to find that wildlife.
