Have you been reluctant to speak at a wedding, retirement party or memorial service because of nerves? Has speech anxiety kept you from expressing your views on important matters in class or at community meetings? If so, this workshop is for you. Although some people seem to have a gift for public speaking, the truth is most of us can improve through practice. In this supportive workshop, we’ll explore simple techniques for gaining confidence and speaking coherently in public. Come with a specific challenge or just the desire for a new skill. FREE and open to all levels of speakers. Participants in this workshop will be able to... • Assess their current comfort level and skill set • Recognize the role of content and delivery in public speaking • Take an audience-centered approach to message development • Rehearse efficiently and locate additional resources Jesse Scinto Lecturer, MS Programs in Strategic Communications, Columbia University Jesse teaches graduate courses in public speaking and persuasion and provides presentation consulting services to leading organizations worldwide. He’s a consultant to the United Nations Foundation and an assistant division governor for Toastmasters, the international public speaking and leadership organization. Jesse’s writings appear in well-known business publications, including Fast Company, Forbes and LinkedIn Pulse. Diane Rubino Adjunct Professor, MS Program in Public Relations and Corporate Communications, New York University Diane teaches graduate communications and leadership at NYU and has more than 20 years of experience helping individuals develop audience-centered communications. She’s worked with community organizations, government officials, and major international NGOs such as the Population Council. Diane leads seminars on difficult conversations and giving voice to values, and she’s an area governor for Toastmasters.
