Event Details

Writing Colorado, a year-long series, features twelve writers whose books reveal the essential character of this state we call home. Colorado’s landscapes and lifescapes inspired many writers in the last two and a half centuries. Some just passed through; some came and stayed; some did not become writers until they lived here awhile. Their words, living long after they disappear, yet speak of yesterday’s Colorado that we might more clearly understand the Colorado of today. July - Kevin will discuss Edwin Way Teale's "Journey into Summer" written in 1960. July 14 — “The Mountain is Now Closing...” Following an era when “nature fakers” wrote of wildlife in egregiously sentimental terms, Edwin Way Teale helped establish nature writing as a legitimate literary genre. Winner of the first Pulitzer Prize for nature writing, Teale spent 20 years traveling with the seasons, a project that brought him to Colorado to spend the last day of summer atop an American icon.
