Event Details

Writing Colorado, a year-long series, features twelve writers whose books reveal the essential character of this state we call home. Colorado’s landscapes and lifescapes inspired many writers in the last two and a half centuries. Some just passed through; some came and stayed; some did not become writers until they lived here awhile. Their words, living long after they disappear, yet speak of yesterday’s Colorado that we might more clearly understand the Colorado of today. June - Hal Borland Country Editor’s Boy 1970 Life and Living in the Other Half of Colorado Being born in Nebraska and growing up in eastern Colorado made Hal Borland a child of the Great Plains. In a society that regarded “Colorado” and “Rocky Mountains” as synonyms, Borland autobiographically described living and maturing in the wide open grass-yucca-cactus flatlands. The reminiscences of this Burroughs-medal winning author irrefutably establish the western Great Plains as part of Colorado, too.
